The iPod Touch software update came with a fantastic feature of being able to play audio at 1/2x, 1x, and 2x normal speed. This is great for zipping through lengthy podcasts where there is a lot of miscellaneous rambling. I can get through podcasts at half the time and still be able to comprehend what is being said. Here are some podcasts I listen to. I tend to like long tech podcasts rather than the short 3 minute podcasts.
- Stanford Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders podcast
- This Week in Startups
- CNET Buzz Out Loud
- Cranky Geeks
- Diggnation

I’ve decided to ditch having a front index page for robert-do.com and to move this blog up to the root directory. There are several reasons why I chose to do this:
- I couldn’t think of a relevant use of an index page that would deem it necessary to dedicate the root directory to it. I initially thought I would use it purely as a resume type page, but I think simply putting my linkedin profile and relevant links into the blog sidebar or on the about page would suffice.
- Blog content would now be easier to find. My thoughts on the blog are more important and useful than a simple index page to people looking to read about my background. I don’t know how much bringing the blog to the root directory affects SEO, but intuitively it just makes sense to remove obstacles in the url.
Gordon Zhu has been getting on my back about writing more to start writing content for this blog, so hopefully this is a start!

I’ve decided it’s time for me to build an online presence. It would serve the purposes of letting people find me and also for expressing any random musings I have about life, tech, marketing, etc. I debated for a bit the best way to do this. Should I go strictly wordpress or have some kind of hybrid. I decided to keep the main page robert-do.com as a simple informational page with all the necessary info people searching for me would need to know. This page would link to the blog. I also felt this would be a good project for me during winter break to further develop my skills in several areas of:
Web design
Building the front page should be fun and should allow me to flex my css/html skills and maybe even some php if it calls for it.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
I’ve built several websites so far, and I really want to get SEO right on this one. I’ve seen how much good SEO can help drive some organic search traffic to the site and how search traffic often accounts for 80% of traffic to a site. I love digging deep into Google Analytics and finding insights on how to improve the flow of navigating through my sites. Keyword data also provide great ideas on what to write about.
Content creation
Since I’ll be a product marketer next year, writing some content for this blog should be a great way to hone my writing skills.
Monetization
I’ll have to admit, the monetization of content is quite interesting to me. I don’t expect to rake in any big dough here, but rather learn how to optimize ad positioning and traffic flow.
